"I've been acting all my life!" Raised with several siblings near the water in a working class village, the rule was always work hard and play harder. Learning to stick together through great adversity the family also learned to laugh. Nobody in the house knew Spanish, but the family's spirit could be summed up well in some wonderful prose written in part by a gifted poet laureate: Ríete de la vida; riete de la noche, del dia, de la luna. An innate common sense and tenacity increased through years of military training and service, proactive living, and a few grad degrees earned/applied. In real life riding horses fast, piloting or jumping out of any flying machine available, and diving insane depths on obscure reefs with all manner of sea life, one wonders where any natural presence in the limelight might have come from. There's no clear answer to that, but what eerily works as an apt description of this actor comes from the pen of a gifted 18th Century Irish writer: "On the stage he was natural, simple, affecting, 'Twas only when he was off, he was acting."
