Junan Kawai (Makoto Fujita), a town doctor who once served as a deputy instructor at a dojo, is called "Teokure (It's too Late) Sensei" because of his habit of saying "It's too late". He is a man of compassion and is well trusted by the people. At Junan's clinic, his friend Okabiki Yoshimatsu (Naito Takeshi) brings in a corpse with a suspicious cause of death. Junan, who is also a coroner in Edo, reveals his other side when he hears the lamentations of the unspeaking corpse that has been killed inexplicably. Single-handedly standing up to an evil power that even the town magistrate could not touch, Junan murmures before he could clear peoples' resentment: "It is too late for you".
