USSR, late 80s. The young correspondent of 'Pskovskaya Pravda' Oleg Verkhovtsev writes only about what he saw with his own eyes. Therefore, the idea of publishing a report from the death row, where journalists are not allowed to enter, he takes with delight. Oleg persuades his high-ranking friends to put him in jail on a false charge for plausibility, and after completing the task, pull him out.
