On the roof of his house in Padua, Italy, Galileo Galilei, brilliant, witty, dynamic physicist and teacher at the University of Padua, points his newly constructed spyglass to the sky. He now has clear proof that the theories of Ptolemy claiming the Earth to be at the center of the Universe are wrong. In a winter of nightly observations, in 1610, Galileo spreads the joy of knowledge and the benefit of doubt to his students; he mentors them to a new model of thinking and to a new method of observation making them his own living legacy and his voice throughout Europe. "These are the best years of my life" - Galileo wrote. And they were, till he will be violently summoned to Rome under the suspicion of heresy and will be called to face the first of the many trials he had to stand.
