When an unhappy Lithuanian nanny, Helena, discovers her boss, Mrs. Gerard, cheating on her husband, Helena uses this information to blackmail Mrs. Gerard into a hefty chunk of hush money to cover Helena's rising rent, but Mrs. Gerard's political influence chases Helena even after she quits, calling her citizenship into question, which forces Helena to choose whether she can survive on her own or return to work for the family.
