The Have a Go Show leveraged 'talent' from the Sydney talent quest scene of the 80's by having them perform and then judged by well-known Australian entertainment and music celebrities in a comedic format. The show was less about showcasing entertainment talent than using them in a matrixed entertainment format that showcased popular entertainers and identities at the time with the featured and ascendant radio celebrities Jonathan 'Jono' Coleman and Ian 'Dano' Rogerson. The show was produced with a studio audience and live band, with 4 acts given approximately 90 seconds to present their act. Three 'featured judges', represented by well-known Australian celebrities, were required to terminate the act by way of pulling a golden rope, so that adjudication could occur. Jono and Dano would join the contestant on stage for judging deliberations. The winner of the show was announced with fanfare at the end of the show. The main prize was a trophy with other contestants receiving albums, chocolates and an appearance fee.
