The Intervision Song Contest was organized during the coldest period of the Cold War and was a socialist answer to the Eurovision Song Contest of the Western powers. In August 1980, tensions between East and West intensified when shipyard workers in Poland began a mass strike. Then the artist Marion Rung from Finland steps onto the stage. With archival material from former Eastern European television companies and interviews with those involved, both in and out of the spotlight, a time is depicted when freedom-hungry Eastern Europeans hoped that a music festival could make a difference.
