In this version Lenny becomes the long suffering and unwanted tomboy daughter called Lenny by her father (short for Leonora). This new switch provides new realms for exploring gender abuse and gynophobia adding a new and chilling approach to what it must be like to be a female forced into sex trafficking and becoming a pimp in order to survive. It was cleverly and sensitively handled by Tatanya Lowed-Spence and the rest of the cast, which, makes it all the more alarming when Ruth's decision is discovered. It is not an easy version to watch but nor were any of the others previously done for video, radio and stage as it remains one of the more controversial censored plays in Harold Pinter's repertoire.
