Holding Positions (2019)

A young Chinese woman is sitting in a café at Frankfurt Airport. She's only passing through. Voices in different languages can be heard around her. The airport is in a typical hectic rush. The young woman is bored, empty hours of waiting are not passing by. Finally, she takes a camera from her backpack and starts watching the people surrounding her. This is the beginning of 'Holding Positions', an anthology relating to the numerous opportunities that may arise from staying at an airport. The film interweaves both staged and documentary elements and puts the audience in the same situation as the protagonists. Just like in the story of the young Chinese woman, the focus can be placed on different details. The airport as a place of the in-between - between the near and the far, the present and the future, the familiar and the unknown - gets tangible.
