Dear Don is based on Globe and Mail article about an elderly couple Don and Marg. Don is sick with dementia and is in what can be called the last stages of his life. Marg is taking care of Don as she can, to keep his spirits up and taking him out to do all kind of things: they drive around and watch houses, sit in a parking lot and eat burgers, watch trucks go by on the highway, Don used to be a trucker, and watch planes taking off. The story is told through Marg as she reflects on the life she had with Don and how Don was there and saved her when she needed help and support. The film shines lights on themes as intergenerational traumas and mental illness.
