La Negra (2019)

Maria, a young Afro-latina woman, secretly dreams of following her grandmother's footsteps in becoming a salsera, but is discouraged by how she's seen and treated in society as a black woman whose Latinidad is constantly denied. Her mother is Afro-Dominicana and her father is a white Cubano. Maria resembles her mother more closely and her sister, Cata, looks like their father. Cata also wants to be a salsera, and her mother supports her dream while urging Maria to focus on her studies. When a famous salsa team holds auditions for a spot, Maria has to decide whether it's time to face the prejudices against her and follow her dream.
