The film is set in a society in which population control is used to limit the population of the country. This is maintained through a combination of infanticide and government-assisted suicide - in short, in order for someone to be born, someone must first volunteer to die. The action takes place in a waiting room at the Tokuda Hospital in Sofia, where Krasimir Zoev is waiting for his wife to give birth to triplets. However, there is a problem: he has found only one person who is willing to die - his maternal grandfather.
