Dr. Jane Harte is 40 years old and has been a marriage counselor for many years. Over the years she has helped thousands of couples through her private practice and has advised millions of people through her weekly radio programme "Harte to Heart". On the morning of her 14th wedding anniversary, she wakes up to discover that her husband Lance has left her. Heartbroken, Jane seeks answers. When she is finally able to contact him, Lance confesses that he was tired of her putting her practice before him and made him feel that he was not good enough for her. He also felt like she resented him because he was unable to give her children. In vain, Jane attempts to continue her practice, but because of the suddenness and emotional strain of the break-up, she cannot objectively listen or counsel her clients and as a result gives toxic advice. As a child of a broken marriage, Jane was on a mission to prove to her family and the world that marriage can work. This is the main reason why she was so driven to succeed in her field. Ironically, this drive to help others in their marital situations caused her to inadvertently neglect hers and unfortunately, much like her parents and extended family, Jane's marriage became a statistic: a harsh truth that devastates her. A few hours after Lance dropped the bombshell on Jane, her sister Rhonda moves in with her. Rhonda: a sassy 38 year old, walked out on her 3rd husband, because as she said "Nobody is that nice". But since she has nowhere else to live, Rhonda has to move in with Jane.
