Marie-Joseph Angélique

Angélique is based on the story of Marie-Joseph Angélique, a black slave who was found guilty of having set fire to much of the city of Montreal in 1734. Angélique was tortured, hung and finally burned at the public square following a trial that seemed to condemn her in advance.
