It's the summer of 1965 and Bethany Stamper has big dreams - mainly going to school to become a nurse. However, her future is about to change when President Johnson signs an executive order stating that after midnight on August 26, 1965, marriage will no longer be considered a draft deferment from the Vietnam War for able bodied young men. When Beth's boyfriend Russ proposes to her in fear of being drafted, the butterflies take over and she accepts. They hop in the car with their best friends, leaving their hometown of Orange, California behind as they drive to Las Vegas to marry. However, the closer they get to the altar, Beth realizes that she and Russ have very different ideas of what their future together will look like. With her dreams of going to Stanford to study nursing on the line, Beth realizes the sacrifice she will ultimately have to make should she marry him before the clock strikes twelve.
