Against all odds, baseball is thriving in Uganda. Baseball in Uganda was first propelled onto the world stage in 2011, when a team from Uganda became the first African team to qualify for the Little League World Series in the USA. Many of the players, raised in the ghetto, have faced unimaginable challenges; but they are talented and dedicated, and their energy and passion for the game of baseball shines. For many of them, baseball has given them hope: irreplaceable friendships, better education, better jobs, and above all, hope for a better Uganda. Since 2012, Canadians have directly supported baseball in Uganda. A group of volunteers from the Lower Mainland, in BC, have worked tirelessly to collect donated equipment (to date, over 6000 lbs) and raise funds to support the construction and maintenance of fields, establish a fund for players' transportation to games, and support players' education.
