THRYVOR is an inspiring story of survival captured with once-in-a-lifetime footage by filmmaker John Sencio, documenting his own diagnosis, treatment, and remarkable recovery from stage 4 cancer. After graduating from film school Sencio landed a dream job on national television - MTV. A year later he was diagnosed with cancer. He kept his diagnosis private and was treated successfully at NYU Medical Center. Seventeen years later, in 2012, he was diagnosed with a deadlier form of the disease. Now with a wife and children, the stakes were much higher. In the hope of creating a valuable resource - and in the future a potential library of additional stand-alone independent short films on survival - Sencio agreed to chronicle his own odyssey. He underwent intense surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment at UCLA Medical Center - and survived. Unlike other cancer documentaries, THRYVOR is seen through the eyes of an actual survivor, in real-time. Crackling with raw emotion, the story unfolds with unforgettable images, brisk editing, and a dynamic soundtrack. Packed with insight and inspiration, THRYVOR utilizes gripping front-line footage, studio interviews with leading medical experts, and testimonies from a variety of "Thryvors" to deliver a true-life story of survival.
