Fragments of Isabella (1989)

The movie begins in America after the war and Isabella remembers being 18 in the small village of Kisvarda where she and her family are taken by the Nazi's to Auschwitz. She describes the death of her mother and baby sister who is thrown in a fire alive, and then relives in her own arrival at the camp and survival. Isabella and two of her sisters survive and she recounts the forced march from Auschwitz and her escape with one of her sisters. Eventually she is freed by the advancing Russian and American army and sails from Desau to New York where she marries and has two children. The sections dealing with her life in the camp are shot in Black and White/ her life before and after are in color.
