The Girl in the Show (1929)

Traveling adult actress Hattie Hartley plays Little Eva in Uncle's Tom's Cabin so well that the Child Welfare League believes she's underage. Prominent middle-aged agent/citizen Newton Wampler takes an interest in Hattie at that point, which puts her in a bind -- marry him and abandon acting to be well off or marry her penniless boyfriend/fellow actor Mal Thorne. When a misfortune hits the troupe, producer Ed Bondell bails, forcing Hattie to make a choice.
