The chorus-girl Mette sings and dances at an operetta theater, but in her spare time she studies serious dramas. The other chorus-girls tease her about this, saying that her inclination for reading is only due to her inability to catch a man's attraction. Mette gets angry. She makes a bet that within one month she shall bring three unknown men to fall in love with her and even make their proposals. The girls choose two men at random by pointing blindly in the telephone book: the tinsmith Olsen and the office manager Bøgholm. The third man should be chosen by Oda, but she just pretends to point blindly in the book. Instead she chooses on purpose the young composer Erik Sommer, who she is in love with, but who doesn't reciprocate her affection. Mette succeeds quite quickly to hook Olsen and Bøgholm, but Erik Sommer is more difficult.
