White Nights (1957)

On a frigid winter night in Livorno, a newcomer named Mario spots Natalia, a young woman weeping on a bridge. Despite her initial wariness, Natalia agrees to let Mario walk her home and they arrange to meet again the following night. Natalia confides that she is waiting for a man who promised to return after a year’s absence. As Mario spends more time with her, Mario grapples with his feelings and the moral dilemma of interfering with her hope.
