To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

1932, Alabama. Atticus Finch, a widowed lawyer with two sons, Jem and Scout, defends an African-American man accused of raping a white woman. Jem and Scout fear a neighbor who rarely shows up. Based on Harper Lee's famous novel, it reflects, through the child's eyes, the contradictions and prejudices of class, race and gender with a memorable performance by Gregory Peck.
