The purest things that Goethe wrote were comparisons of his own experiences. His love affairs provided the experiences which are the basis of many of his greatest works. Goethe wrote his most admired poems in the happy moments in which he dreamed of a lover; hence, the importance of his love affairs in the poet's development.
