There's a severe presence of dread and doom throughout. The performances are top notch and accurately depict the panic and terror. Hearing their reactions to the events is largely stomach churning.
Off screen (in pitch black), we hear a man torn apart by sharks. He shrieks briefly before wetly coughing for some time, grunting occasionally. Extremely grounded and realistic.
A man goes into shock and a woman tries her best to comfort him. She then pleads desperately that he stay alive, dreading being left alone. Heart-wrenching.
A woman solemnly watches a bobbling torso for a few moments. The torso's surrounded by sharks underwater and sucked under with a *bloop*. Unnerving and, in context, heart breaking.
The movie is very frightening and intense. There's an atmosphere of threat and dread throughout, and it is very unsettling.

A man and a woman scream and cry (on separate occasions) in frustration and terror when they realize they have been left behind in the middle of the ocean.
