Russia in early 1800'es. Fjokla is a professional matchmaker. She is in a hurry to present a string of suitable husbands to a young girl Agafja with her aunt and protector Arina. Fjokla has come to understand that two gents are on their way to court Agafja independently - and the matchmaker will only get her commission if one of her own candidates take the bride.
