The Headless Woman (2008)

Lucrecia Martel's third film introduces us to Vero, a woman who runs over "something" on the road and, without stopping, continues driving. Not knowing whether it was a dog or a child, the guilt becomes an unsettling presence, shattering the tranquility of her comfortable middle-class existence. Martel, known for her formal and allegorical astuteness, foregrounds the emotional turmoil of Vero against the backdrop of a hypocritical society that hides its dark history with a smile, in a tale as compelling as it is chilling.
