In 1906, psychiatrist Dr. Morgenthaler at the Waldau Mental Hospital in Bern, Switzerland, began collecting and photographing paintings, drawings, and other items designed by his patients. A certain Dr. Prinzorn did the same thing in Heidelberg, Germany. These collections became an important part of the chain that has been the inspiration for modern art.
