Jean-Pierre is a brilliant surgeon, a man of action not prone to emotion. The problems of his nearest and dearest don't interest him, let alone those of his patients. Why should they, as long as his open-heart surgery is saving lives? But when he discovers that he too has a serious heart disease which needs operating on, Jean-Pierre finds out what it is to be a patient.
