MARTIN CHAVEZ Depth, Purpose, Intensity. US-born, Colombian-descent actor Martin Chavez takes nothing for granted. His journey from Sunnyside Queens to Hollywood has been paved with persistence and positive intent. It's in his eyes. Chavez declares, "Gratitude is my daily state." Roles in epic shows GREY'S ANATOMY, KINGS, DAREDEVIL, SNOWFALL, NCIS, GENERAL HOSPITAL, YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, and MURDER IN THE FIRST laid the foundation for his ever-deepening path as a lead character actor with unlimited potential. Chavez' illuminated TV & film credits are an adventurous mix of indie films and high-profile Network Series TV work. Six foot and 170 lbs., former Marine and Veteran, Chavez embodies the rigor, cool and discipline of his military branch, and the mental toughness to deal with any situation. Chavez's esteem for the Marines is evident. "It really is 'the few, the proud'! Chavez has played his share of police officers and agents, but he's also a natural for brainy scientist roles. He attended the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology (commonly called Vaughn College) a private college in East Elmhurst, New York, specialized in aviation and engineering education before deciding to focus on acting. His English and Spanish fluency [with the coveted Colombian accent] are an increasing advantage as his [mostly] TV career expands to film and creating his own projects. He's seen both sides of the creative coin and remains open to great roles from anywhere. Chavez' indie feature credits include RELENTLESS, which shot in El Salvador. He recently wrapped limited series KINDRED, psychological thriller MIND TALKER, and TV series DADS! Raised by his mother and grandmother, from a young age Chavez developed respect for women, self-reliance, and education. "I was a latch-key kid. I learned responsibility at an early age. I've been working nights for like, over 20 years just to be available for acting." A voracious reader of self-improvement books, busy actor and new dad Chavez consumes at least one book a week. Reading actually got Chavez hooked on acting. He was a teen perusing a copy of the Village Voice when he saw the typical 'sketchy' ads looking for talent and selling headshots. Chavez took the bait and to his great surprise, landed high-profile modeling and commercial jobs for Microsoft, Doritos 3D, Coke. Chavez admits "I've been lucky." In fact, Chavez's 'luck' is the result of preparation, acting classes, casting workshops, timing, tenacity, and responsible risk-taking. He's been working night jobs for 20 years, juggling casting auditions. Chavez is always learning. "While studying with Diana Castle in New York, I applied her acting system 'The Imagined Life' to my audition for DAREDEVIL." Not surprisingly, Chavez booked the job. Chavez' true secret weapon is his great rehearsal partner, wife, and fellow actor Silvia Tovar. "It's been great with all these audition tapes, I'm very fortunate that she understands the game." Steering his destiny, Martin Chavez is writing scripts to produce that will showcase his humorous side, action chops, and embrace his Colombian heritage. "I have written an action comedy to shoot in Colombia, called "Entre Familia" that translates to 'within the family.' No doubt he will get it done; with Chavez, intention is everything.
