Born and raised in Philadelphia, P.A., Xiomara Bernard is the daughter of a former Cuban refugee (Freedom Flight-Lyndon B. Johnson) and a former Cuban political prisoner (Prisoner's Exchange-Jimmy Carter). Bernard grew up taking lessons in piano and ballet, but acting was always the career that took precedence inside her heart. Bernard is mostly known in the independent film community. She has worked on short films, one of them being "April's Way", which has gone to Cannes, music videos, voice-overs, plays, and feature films, including "Company of Prophets", "Cygnus X-1", and "Out on Parole". She recently worked on the feature film in New Mexico, "Firstness", which was directed by Brielle Brilliant. In between working for other visionaries, Bernard runs a production company, Theophilus Films. So far, she directed two short films, "Night" and "Poison", both of which have gone to local and international festivals. Bernard will get ready to direct her third short, "Blackout". Xiomara Bernard also goes by the nickname "Xio".
