Like many Cinematographers, Mari Abe started her career as a photographer in 1988. Mari officially entered the filmmaking world in 2009. She shot her first short film on a zero budget production and experienced many challenges which led to in-depth trouble-shooting for quick solutions in all departments; lighting, editing, color correction, ADR, directing, producing etc. Over the years she pushed herself into deeper and more challenging production work. In 2010 Mari joined Beneficial Entertainment Ltd. as a Cinematographer under the mentor-ship of Elifer Santos and Ben Hud. She was presented with Awards in 2012 for her leadership and outstanding contribution on the seven PSA's launched for Cayman Islands Red Cross HIV and AIDS Awareness Education Program. In 2013, Mari and Ben won the Belize International Film Festival Award for Best Music Video and was awarded the Socially Conscious Filmmakers Award for their work on the documentary film, BOY'S VOICE by the Ministry of Education and Family Resource Center In 2014 Mari directed her first social documentary film produced by Deputy of Cayman Islands Red Cross Carolina Ferreira; "UNSPEAKABLE - Confronting Child Sexual Abuse In the Cayman Islands" which was screened at the Harquail Theater and released by the Cayman Islands Red Cross. She worked with Director Trevor Murphy on his short film Imaginary Friend, and INFLUENCED REMY, Directed by Ben Hud which both debuts at CayFilm 2015. She is completed on her first film Written and Direct by her. Film was about a girl who died young but her soul stuck on earth
