Derek Roy

Derek Roy grew up knowing the only thing he ever wanted to do in life was make movies and tell stories. At the age of five Roy routinely put on small shows for his parents and younger siblings, consisting of jumping on various couches and other furniture. Roy's parents would occasionally film these "shows", leading to a life-long love and fascination with the camera and cinema. In junior high, Roy made his first feature-length "film". He made it with his younger siblings and it was promptly called "Area 51"; the film itself was inspired by the films "Cloverfield" and "Super 8". Once Roy reached high school, he joined the school's theatre department. There Roy learned how to hone his skills with building relationships with actors and how to direct them. He even acted a little himself. By his senior year in high school, Roy was the president of the school's theatre troupe and had directed a short film called "Under the Lights" - which earned almost perfect scores and made it all the way to nationals in the International Thespian Society competitions. Roy went on to make his short film "The Motley Sea: A Short Film about Love and Loneliness" - which was accepted into the Los Angeles Cinefest - and his school's prom promo video. His prom promo video went on the be featured in the local news for the open acceptance the video showed for the LGBTQ community. As of recently, Roy has just finished his first professional feature length film, "A Working Title". Roy not only directs, but writes, produces, and edits the film. The film is scheduled for a 2018 festival run and release date.
