Jigmae Baer is a filmmaker and musician from California. Baer was born at the Tibetan monastery Tashi Jong to Linda Baer and Pema Tashi on February 19, 1981. Baer was flown to Los Angeles as a 6 month old newborn to be raised by his maternal side's Jewish family. Jigmae Baer was named by his great-uncle, the Eighth Kyabje Dorzong Rinpoche. Baer grew up in Santa Monica and Trinity County, CA. Baer attended Westland School, Trinity High, and U.C. Santa Cruz where he studied literature. Baer's first job as a teenager was on the Trinity River where he became a class V commercial whitewater guide and returned for many summers. At age 21, Baer became roommates with John Dwyer in the Lower Haight of San Francisco. Baer was a musician in bands Royal Baths, Thee Ohsees, Lodro, The Perverts, Ty Segall, and the Tea Elles, a traveling companion for The Coachwhips, as well as other uncredited performances. Baer moved to Brooklyn, where he continued music projects with long-time collaborator Jeremy Cox, and made (in varying capacities) 2 low budget indie features, music videos, and a talk show with Fatos Marishta. Experimental in nature, these video projects did not gain recognition outside of their community. Baer and Marishta work together under the name Film Lies Production. Baer moved back to Los Angeles in June 2018.
