Several years ago, before the destruction of Planet Vegeta by Frieza, a gifted Saiyan named Broly and his father were exiled from their home world by King Vegeta. After a long period on a desolate planet, they were discovered by Frieza, who manipulated them into invading Earth in a quest for revenge against the king’s son, Prince Vegeta. This is one of the most critically praised movies from the Dragon Ball franchise, and rewrites the origin story of the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, with more insight into the Saiyan's race past.

The Red Ribbon Army, a once terrifying nemesis of Goku, resurfaces once more. Years after his father's defeat, Magenta, the new army leader, manipulates Dr. Hedo - grandson of the evil scientist Dr. Gero - to invent new super-powerful androids and seek revenge against the Z Fighters. With Goku and Vegeta off-world, the student-mentor duo of Gohan and Piccolo must step up to protect Earth. This movie is a sequel to Dragon Ball Super: Broly and features a new 3D animation style, never been used before in Dragon Ball movies.

At the end of the Z Saga, Goku and Vegeta believed they were the strongest fighters in the universe. That was until a deity called Lord Beerus stirred from his slumber. Known as the God of Destruction, he receives a prophecy foretelling the arrival of the Super Saiyan God and travels to Earth intending to challenge this new being. This movie serves as a bridge between Dragon ball Z and the Super saga, introducing a new cast of characters.

This film takes place after the events of the "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" movie.
