A successful oncologist, Dr. Roger Mills, invited his friends to spend time on his yacht. Visiting Mills were: a young doctor, William Garnett, who works at the Mills Clinic, club regulars Ian Caple, Philip Wade - the son of a shipbuilder magnate, with his girlfriend Tony Gilmore, Miss Evis Loring with his fiance Christopher Terent. A few days later, Mills was found killed in a shot in the heart. The investigation is being taken by local police sergeant Berell and Mr. Finbow, a friend of Ian Caple, who was hastily summoned to help. During the investigation, Finbow discovers that five of the six guests on the yacht had the opportunity to commit murder and each had its own reasons. Only Ian Capel was excluded from the list of suspects, he arrived on the yacht last in the evening, on the eve of the murder, and could not know the daily routine on the yacht, and the killer should have this information. Sergeant Berell leads the investigation in his own way, he strictly follows the instructions and keeps the whole company in fear. In his opinion, the main suspect is Ian Capel, but this suspicion is based only on the fact that Capel is much older than the rest. To establish the truth, Finbow also collects information about the murdered. It turns out that the identity of Roger Mills is not worthy of any sympathy and the reason for his murder could be that he blackmailed the killer, using medical secrets. Meanwhile, unexpected news arrives: Sergeant Berell pulls out a murder weapon from the bottom of the river - a pistol that is tied with a rope to the ship's magazine. Based on this, Burrell concludes: Mills is not killed, but committed suicide. The whole company decides to celebrate such a successful resolution of the case, but Finbow spoils the "holiday" by exposing the killer.
