Very few series have left such a strong mark on the television industry as this one, which inaugurated the so-called "golden period" of series, due to the seriousness of its approach, the complexity of its characters, its evolution and its narrative and acting level. Multi-awarded and acclaimed, the series revolves around Tony Soprano, a mafia boss operating in New Jersey who, due to the challenges of his task, begins to see a psychiatrist. The power struggles within his organisation and threats from outside are mixed with his strained relationships with his family and children. James Gandolfini's iconic performance, along with his humour and brilliant scripts, established it as one of the best series in television history.
The literature says that the golden age of the series began with The Sopranos, precisely because of the quality of its scripts, the psychological depth of its characters, complex and full of edges. Tony Soprano is undoubtedly one of the most unforgettable and unique characters in television history.
Original TV gold.Absolute classic. Story is highly unexpected and creative. Mob boss goes through mental health issues and seeks help. And this is much, much earlier than mental health really becomes a mainstream issue. So, highly original idea, brilliantly written and with memorable characters. Deservedly considered as pioneer in the new era of TV.
Not apt for 2021.The writing is excellent and the storytelling is superb, but I don't think it would survive today's cancel culture.
