Bite Me! Chameleon (1992)

None | Japan | Japanese |
Directed by: Mitsuo Hashimoto

Chameleon is an exaggerated and often bizarre look at gang life in Japanese schools, focusing on a shrimpy little goon named Yazawa with dreams of being a badass gangsta'. Of course, since this is Japan, being a badass gangsta' involves tricking out your scooter and beating up on other gangs with golf clubs. I guess these kids just want to impress the Yakuza, who use many similar tactics (at least, according to anime. And anime's always right, isn't it?). Of course, since Yazawa is small, weak, and generally completely lacking in any social grace whatsoever, the gangs won't have him as one of their own. He's picked on and harrassed as much as everyone else-- at first, anyway. The thing that Yazawa's enemies never seem to realize about him is that he's a man with absolutely nothing to lose. This makes him incredibly dangerous, in spite of his diminutive stature-- if he's angry or humiliated enough, then by hook or by crook, he'll make his antagonizers eat turd.
