Kerstin Thorborg (1896-1970) was the leading mezzo-soprano of her time on the world's opera stages. She was considered one of the best dramatic Wagnerian singers in the two decades between 1930 and 1950. When Hitler conquered Austria, she immediately broke the contract with the Vienna Opera in solidarity with her Jewish colleagues. Contemporary colleague Anna Larsson follows her path to Metropolitan and her marriage to director Gustaf Bergman.
