Father Melchior, a Franciscan missionary priest, lands in Ceylon in 1560 with the Portuguese army arriving to avenge the Christian massacre at Mannar in 1544. While searching for Christians amid the fiery war and propagating the true religion of light, on the one hand, they are fighting with the greedy conspiratorial imperialist Portuguese and on the other hand, King Cankili who fighting for the protection of the sovereign state for fear of Portuguese invasion. Meanwhile, Father Melchior is arrested by Cankili, and severely punished, and sees the death of innocent people who followed Jesus' true path. With unwavering courage, he is inspired by the diary of Father Lisano, who faced the Holocaust of 1544 and sacrificed his life to stand before darkness for light. Through the example of his self-sacrifice, he realizes that truth-realization can never be shut down at the behest of political power, that truth can never be killed and buried, and that the seeds of truth will one day rise like great trees.
