As If Mother Cried That Night (2023)

Sirvan and Hoda, an Iranian couple whose asylum application in Germany has been rejected, live in a refugee camp in Berlin. In order to get a residence permit, they decide that Hoda should get pregnant by a German man so that they both have the right to stay in Germany. As we follow this unconventional path to a residence permit, we get lost in the labyrinth of German bureaucracy and remain there without a solution and with the bitter feeling that the current laws and structures are deeply questionable.
