A wonderfully inventive and funny imagination was at work here as classic elements of gangster and western movies were weaved into a bizarre tale of pigeon fanciers. Well done writer Danny McCahon for taking us into this weird and wonderful world. Our unlikely hero Con McGuire (Gary Lewis) was one of life's losers, who seemed destined never to have his name next on the club championship trophy. Until, like all small men who finally stand tall, Con realised that a man's gotta doo ... And he challenged the authority of blustering Godfather figure, Danger Doyle - a hilariously intentional over-the-top performance from Stuart Hepburn - using a pigeon stolen from the gangster. Con was the most believable figure in this slightly surreal and very amusing comedy. Most of the other characters were comically absurd - and their dialogue was suitably off-the-wall. Such as when, for no apparent reason, the priest (Michael Marra) said: "There's something been preying on my mind ... could you name a whole team of baldy fitba' players?" Wildly wacky, this was a comedy that really took off. I'll certainly be looking out for the next production that has Danny McCahon's name on the writing credits.
