The Switchblade Sisterhood (2023)

MA15+ (AU) | Australia | 124 min
Directed by: Davo Hardy
7.9

A young woman discovers she has an estranged half-sister, shortly after their mother's death, along with second-wave feminism texts, which she wholeheartedly embraces as a means to cope with her grief, despite it causing friction with those around her, including her privileged but gentlemanly love interest. While drawing on political literature from the sexual revolution of the 1970s, such as Valerie Solanas's "The Scum Manifesto", there is also reference made to country music from the same era; notably "The Pill" by Loretta Lynn, "Just Because I'm A Woman" by Dolly Parton and, most pointedly, "Stand By Your Man" by Tammy Wynette.
