Thirsteen-year-old Olivia appears to be rather withdrawn, much to her mother Jean's concern. Olivia has an interest in music and borrows CDs from her eccentric Uncle Eric, even though her mother doesn't want her to associate with him. Eric introduces her to the weird music of composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, and she immediately takes to it. It has a profound effect on her life and she becomes obsessed by it. She starts to behave oddly. While Jean visits Eric to confront him about what she sees as his bad influence on Olivia's life, Olivia drifts off into a forest and towards a lake as she listens to more Stockhausen music.
