Laura Popp was born with Hemifacial Microsomia where half of her face was paralyzed at birth. Her life was a living hell due to the multiples surgeries as well as the constant teasing she had to endure. Grade school and high school were filled with pain for her but the turning point in her life came when she was in college and a group of fraternity boys laughed and shouted at her "Hey Beautiful!" She reached the depths of her emotional pain when she came to the conclusion that no man could ever love her, and had serious thoughts of suicide. That all changed when she met John Popp who saw past her deformity and fell in love with her. Their 32-year relationship has been an inspirational love story. Despite the hate and abuse hurled at her throughout her life, Laura still managed to open her heart and help others with disabilities in her work as an occupational therapist. She now embarks on a journey to care for one of the only supporters she had during her 42 surgeries, her father. She gives that support back to him while she cares for him during his journey with Alzheimer's Disease. Her story shows us that we can find love no matter what we look like on the outside, and that beauty is only skin deep in terms of facial equality, as we hear the new definition of beauty from leading celebrities and news makers.
