At sixteen, Gabriel moves to a new school in a new city with his father in Melbourne. He's only seeking a fresh start before he is met with the unexpected curveball of Lily, a half-aboriginal girl, whom just like him, possesses a deep love for jazz, art and poetry. After finally realising feelings for each other on the brink of eighteen, Gabriel and Lily begin dating before Lily is forced to break the news that she's moving to Tokyo to study, inevitably crushing Gabriel's world.
