'Tilak Ani Agarkar' is renowned play and honoured with 'Golden Leaf of Marathi theater!' It is written by well-known Playwright Late Mr.Vishram Bedekar. This play is based on the period in between 1880 to 1895. And it was first staged in 1983. The social issues occurred in the age of Mr. Tilak and Mr. Agarkar are still unsolved somehow; so 'Abhijaat Natya Sanstha' and 'Shri Aryadurga Creations' decided to rejuvenate this play. It has political as well as family touch. This play mainly comments on the intense friendship between Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and social reformer Mr. Gopal Ganesh Agarkar. It is called as a milestone of the Marathi stage. The play has characteristics of biography, history, family drama and last but not the least comic shade given by veteran actress " 'Padma Shri' Nayana Apte." She has sowed hilarious shades in this serious play and has commented on the serious topic by her own style. This play has scenarios like Mr. Tilak's and Mr.Agarkar's close friendship in college life, their oath for India's bright future and when they realise their difference of thoughts they try their level best for the nation as per their own ways. This play even consists their political enmity, how it affects their families. But even above all these situations their urge for loyalty in friendship we can see. This play shows live scenes of their 15-20 years of the political and social period of time. At the end of the play, Mr. Agarkar suffers from the Asthmatic attack and dies. Unfortunately, these two close friends don't meet at all. Here on this sad note, the curtain closes.
