In 1997, Annie Pembe Mponda flees the Congo for Toronto where she applies for refugee status. Annie has to act quickly and make the difficult decision to leave behind her two daughters, Kisha and Miriam (4 months and 2 years), with her mother. The documentary explores how music helped Annie find community in Toronto and rebuild her relationships with her daughters and her family. Music is the thread that connects Annie to Kinshasa and allows the family to share the love and the pain that can't be communicated through words. Hymne Migratoire follows one family's journey of reconciliation.
