261 chronicles the pioneering and inspirational personal journey of a fearless female marathon runner in a male-dominated sport. In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon. During the race, Ms. Switzer was physically attacked by one of the male organizers, attempting to forcibly remove her from the marathon for being a woman. Ms. Switzer famously fought through and finished the race. The photo of the attack became one of Time-Life's "100 Photos That Changed the World." Kathrine would go on to run 42 marathons, win the New York City Marathon and lead the drive to get the women's marathon into the Olympics (Los Angeles, 1984). 261 is a universal story about an underdog overcoming adversity and discrimination through persistence, skill, and determination; it's an international story about fighting to achieve gender-equality, personal empowerment and self-discovery.
