The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association Community Education Foundation (APAPA-CEF), 18th Annual California Voters and Candidates Forum, was held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the California State University, Sacramento Special guests included Mayor Lily Mei from the City of Fremont, Zima Creason with the San Juan Unified School District, Bobby Singh-Allen with the Elk Grove Unified School District, Porsche Middleton with the Citrus Heights City Council, and Senator Ling Ling Chang who received the Legislator of the Year Award. Senator Chang represents California's 29th Senate District and is currently the only API woman elected to serve in the California State Legislature. The five elected officials participated in the "Women in Politics" panel which was moderated by Sacramento Bee reporter Theodora Yu. She joined the McClatchy-owned newspapers over the summer to write about issues and topics that impact the API communities in Sacramento and Northern California region. Hollywood actor Tzi Ma delivered the keynote speech at the voter's forum. Ma, played the role of the father in the movie "The Farewell" and in two of the "Rush Hour" movies with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.
