The documentary follows the journey to the south, first in Spain and then in Morocco, which has marked the sentimental and intellectual biography of the writer Juan Goytisolo and the successive ruptures and reconstructions that have made Goytisolo an "essential" of Spanish and universal culture. The title of this work borrows a word invented by Juan Goytisolo, "medinear", which means wandering through the medina, to review the high points of his life: from the Almeria of the 50s, where he was impressed by the beauty of the landscape and the poverty of its inhabitants; passing through Paris, which marked his voluntary exile caused by his opposition to the Franco dictatorship and the censorship that gripped him, where he met his vital companion Monique Lange and the writer Jean Genet; and crossing the Strait of Gibraltar to settle years later in Marrakech. In this Moroccan city, in the house where he lives since 1996, Goytisolo gives a long interview to the authors of the documentary where he takes stock of his life and work.
